Volleyball players of the Russian Super League on the pluses of computer games

Volleyball players of the Russian Super League told us on many occasions that they are keen to spend their off-court time in front of a computer. Actually, in the run-up to the Tokyo Olympics they did find time to square off with each other in virtual reality at the training camp in Novogorsk.

In May at the eSports World Championship players from “Belogorie” club clashed head on in a friendly match against the players of Virtus.Pro in a phygital-duel (see video). Ivan Yakovlev and Ilya Vlasov confirmed they are interested in eSports and computer games. They also shared their opinion about the format of the new tournament “Games of Future” to be held in 2024 in Kazan.

Ilya Vlasov
«As a matter of fact, all our team plays computer games. We always call each to get to play. It is great for team-building – to socialize off the volleyball arena. Maybe such interest on behalf volleyball players will encourage specialists to develop a volleyball simulator in the run-up to the “Games of Future” because our team would gladly participate in such tournament».

Ivan Yakovlev
«The Games of Future offer a new format – to unite sports and eSports. Lots of guys from our team play the game console – and they are doing well, actually. So, I gotta tell the guys (about the Games of Future), if it works, we can submit our entry bids with them to participate in the event. At the training camp in Novogorsk the guys were also knee-deep in computer games, so many in our volleyball environment could be interested in participating in a tournament of such format. And if the prize money is respectable, as is the case in eSports, just tell us where to sign up for the tourney».
